《潇湘夜雨》改编自元杂剧《临江驿潇湘秋夜雨》，是经典传统京剧，由湖南省京剧保护传承中心复排。故事讲述官宦千金张翠鸾遭遇变故，寻夫却遭丈夫崔通负心背叛，被诬陷罪名、刺字发配，历经风雨磨难，最终在临江驿与高官父亲重逢沉冤得雪。

Adapted from the Yuan Dynasty zaju drama Autumn Night Rain at Linjiang Post Station, the time-honored traditional Peking opera Night Rain over Xiaoxiang is revived by the Hunan Peking Opera Protection and Inheritance Center The opera tells the story of Zhang Cuiluan, daughter of an official. Travelling with her father to his new post, she is caught in a storm. Their ship sinks and the father and the daughter are separated. Rescued by fisherman Cui Wenyuan, she is taken in as his goddaughter. At Cui Wenyuan’s urging, she is betrothed to his nephew Cui Tong, who, after passing the imperial examinations, betrays her and marries another woman. When Zhang Cuiluan goes in search of her husband, she is framed for a crime, branded and sent into exile, suffering immense tribulations. Her father has since risen to a high official rank. The two are reunited at Linjiang Post Station, and Zhang Cuiluan’s grievance is finally redressed.

To portray the heroine’s dramatic reversal of fate, Ji Yaoyao, the actress for Zhang Cuiluan, delivers a compelling performance through subtle shifts in her gaze and stylized movements including sleeveflicking and turning around for a direct gaze. She vividly depicts the protagonist’s wrenching fall from a privileged young lady to a branded exile. Her performance captures Zhang Cuiluan’s radiant poise and quiet sorrow in earlier scenes, alongside her searing grief and indignation toward the faithless Cui Tong in later scenes, demonstrating exceptional skill in nuanced character depiction.
