Major Heat, the last solar term of the summer. During this time, most parts of China enter the hottest season of the year.

大暑，夏天的最后一个节气。这段时间，中国大部分地区进入一年中最热的时期。

The sunshine, high temperatures, and heavy rainfall are good for agricultural crops. But many natural calamities such as floods, droughts and typhoons also happen during Major Heat. Therefore, it's important to harvest and plant in time to avoid setbacks caused by natural disasters.

阳光、高温和强降雨有利于农作物的生长。但大暑期间也会发生许多自然灾害，如洪水、干旱和台风。因此，及时收获和种植十分重要，以避免自然灾害带来的伤害。

Meanwhile, Major Heat is a interesting season with the largest number of crickets that can be found in the fields along the countryside. Cricket fighting is a popular pastime for some people in China during this period. The custom dates back more than 1,000 years to the Tang Dynasty.

 与此同时，大暑是一个有趣的季节。在乡村一带的田野里可以找到大量的蟋蟀。斗蟋蟀是大暑时节流行的消遣方式。这一习俗可追溯到1000多年前的唐朝。

It is also a delicious season. There is a custom of eating litchi in Putian, Fujian province. This is a nutritious fruit containing glucose and vitamins. 

大暑也是个品尝美味的好时期。福建莆田有吃荔枝的习俗。这是一种富含葡萄糖和维生素的水果。

There is a custom in Shandong province where people drink mutton soup on the day of Major Heat. 

在山东，人们习惯在大暑这天喝羊肉汤。

You can also enjoy Grass jelly which is made with a special grass in Guangdong province, With the amazing ability to quell the summer heat, grass jelly is described in a popular saying in Guangdong province that goes, "eating herb jelly in Major Heat will make you stay young like the immortals."
