Editor notes: The increasing number of people, not only domestic tourists but also foreigners from other countries, has been attracted by Hunan’s charming natural scenery, delicious local snacks, special night market, countless internet-famous sites, a time-honored history and rich culture. Denis, who comes from America, is one of them. He came here about five years ago and decided to stay here for a while. He wants to share everything which he experienced in hunan and also provides a new way for us to know our hometown.

Denis Nurmela, from the United States, employed by Changsha University as public speaking teacher. He claims to be a native of Changsha and has a Chinese name, Xia Shili, which was given by his friend. Recently, Denis visited Sifangping Night Market for these famous Hunan typical snacks
Even before dark, the streets next to the street vendors are crowded, which is a typical hustle and bustle city in China.
Denis tactfully relies on the relationship of his "old acquaintance" to skip over the long queue and be the first to eat the hot fried bun. He doesn’t even forget to explain: "Just to prove how local I am, not greedy!".
In the United States, there is no such food as steamed stuffed bun (we also call it baozi). The food that looks like baozi is called "bun" in English, but "bun" means small round bread in Chinese.
The Pan-Fried Pork Bun, which we called "sheng jian bao", is also different from the baozi. "sheng jian bao" is usually fluffy, and with meat stuffing. It’s a kind of baozi, but more juicy and usually crispy at the bottom.
When eating sheng jian bao, you should be especially careful! Denis tried it for the first time, and the soup spilled like a flood as he took a big bite of it.
So what is the appropriate way to eat? All you have to do is take a small bite of the sheng jian bao, suck out the soup slowly, and then eat the whole sheng jian bao.
Certainly, as a Changsha person, as a "local" like Denis. You can also get some spicy sauce if you like spicy food.
Denis said that his mouth is big enough to put the whole sheng jian bao directly into his mouth without biting a small hole to prevent the soup from spilling.
So, will you eat sheng jian bao like Denis, or will you take a small bite of it and then taste the soup slowly ?
