Grace BOUKETE, an international Phd student from Hunan Normal University, recently embarked on a journey to the quaint hometown village of his friend Zao Miao.
The town, nestled in the northwest part of central China’s Changsha city, Wangcheng district, is known as Chating and is one of the most sought-after tourism destinations in the city suburbs, particularly during the spring season. The town’s most alluring attraction is the yellow cole flowers, which bloom every spring and create a breathtaking landscape that draws thousands of tourists from nearby cities.
The cole flowers are typically planted as a rotation crop between rice seasons or on fallow land. They not only enhance soil fertility but also prevent pests and diseases from affecting rice cultivation.
Hunan province has been renowned for its abundant agricultural resources and diverse culinary culture since ancient times. It is one of the provinces that effectively implements China’s farmland protection system, which safeguards the ecology, biodiversity, culture, and identity of the countryside.
The province adheres to the central government’s “red line” on arable land to ensure sufficient land for grain production and also strives to support the national strategy of rural revitalization that aims to enhance the prosperity and sustainability of rural areas.
