Have you ever heard of the "Rankou Techniques"
它是中国戏曲表演的一项基本功。
It's a basic skill of Chinese opera performance
戏曲人物所带的胡须,统称髯口。
The long artificial beard worn by opera players is called Rankou,
髯口既是人物年龄、身份、性格的标识,也是演员表达人物心情的道具。
which is not only an indicator of age, identity, and personality, but also a prop for actors to deliver the emotional state of the character.
比如,"单手捋髯"表示人物正在思索;
For example, the movement of touching the side beard with just one hand indicates the character is in deep thoughts;
"搂髯"多用于昂首观望;
"holding the beard" indicates he is holding up his head high to look far;
"双挑髯+抓髯"体现人物兴奋状态或者激动亮相;
"grabing and playing with the beard" implies he's excited or thrilled at taking the stage
"抖髯+打髯"展现人物情绪激动、高涨或焦虑情绪;
"shaking and throwing the beard" implies he is emotional or anxious
"抖髯+踉跄步"则用于表现人物惊讶、畏惧或是气愤情绪。
"shaking the beard with staggering steps" often implies surprise, fear or anger.
